better late than never

So it took me forever to finally get around to posting these, but without further ado, here are my fave lovelies from the 2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards. I think I may be on a subconscious patriotic kick, because all of my faves wore red, white or blue.

Reds:

Claire Danes. Have you seen Evening? She is stunning in that movie.

Diane Lane. One of C's alltime faves. She just gets better looking with age.

Amy Adams. Doubt forces you to seriously think about tradition in the church. It is seriously good.

White:
Jennifer Morrison. I am seriously, seriously addicted to House. Good thing I have approx 52 epis saved in my DVR.

Blues:
Kate Winslet. So, so gorgeous. This color of blue is absolutely amazing on her.

Angelina Jolie. For some reason, I am really into her lately. Must be the Brad Pitt thing.

Can't wait for the Oscars!
P.S. Click on the names of the women for picture credits.
P.P.S. Have a great, relaxing, love-filled weekend!

speaking of inspiration

I have been loving this vintage wedding photo from NYT for quite some time, and I thought it might be time to share. There is just something about her dress and her crowning glory of a veil against the damask wallpaper that sets my heart on fire. Too lovely.

truly inspired wedding

In fulfillment of my bridesmaidly duties, I have been trolling the internet for inspiration for Laura's wedding. Well, boy howdy, have I found some!

How freakin gorgeous is the NC of Christine and Mas? From her birdcage veil to her frilly shrug over lace combo to her fancy shindig in an outdoor location (C would LOVE that) to her guests draped in fur, it doesn't get much better than this. They even had their brothers officiate. I love the special little personal touches. Also, I am desperately coveting the shrug. I just can't help it. The day looks like a dream!

And as if she weren't chic enough, she included her adorable French Bulldog in her ceremony. The almost matching feathery shoulder pieces are to.die.for. I seriously love it.

For more of Christine's wedding goodies, visit her amahzing blog pretty.pretty.paper. She seriously rocks it out.

love and some verses

Iron & Wine "Love and Some Verses"

Also, I kind of forgot how really, really great this movie is. Must go home and rewatch for the 52nd time.

a castle of love

How amahzing are these felt and velvet on vintage French linen hand-stitched art pieces from Castle? I originally got a sneak peek of the one above in a post Melanie did of things she loves (she loved the brand's polka dot sheets). And I was sucked in. The ones below are my favorites. Seems like a cute little project I might be able to tackle on an afternoon I am feeling crafty.

They retail for $150-$560, but shipping is free. How about that?

all i know is that you're so nice

I am currently re-loving this song. So poignant. Love it.

tragic love story

Speaking of epic, tragic love stories (see Ben Button below) and in honor of the impending V Day, I want to repost this page Jordan posted from Teddy Roosevelt's diary the day his first wife, Alice, died in 1884.

How sad! According to Wiki, although they were married only 4 short years, she was the love of his life. On the day they first met, he journaled in his diary "As long as I live, I shall never forget how sweetly she looked, and how prettily she greeted me." How sweet. He was such the romantic poet. Sadly, on the day Alice died, T.R.'s mother also passed away. That is a lot for a young man of 25.

His diaries and other papers (approx. 250,000 items in all!) are housed in the Presidential Papers, Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress. Read more of his diary entries here, here, here and here. Purchase Theodore Roosevelt's Diaries of Boyhood and Youth here.

Also, if historical love letters are your thing, I recommend Love Letters of Great Men which I received as a Christmas gift. It is quite lovely.

the curious case of benjamin button

Have you seen this movie yet? I saw it last night and oh.my.gawd. It is really, really good. The movie is a beautifully portrayed, poignant love story. The ease and grace with which the characters accept life and death and the timing of their love is just perfect. I think it has a good shot at winning some awards at the Oscars. Especially for costuming and makeup. If I could only wear Cate Blanchett's wardrobe from this movie for the rest of my life, I would be good to go. This is a definite must-see.

Also, can we chat a moment about Cate's epic cheekbones? I would die for that bone structure.

P.S. Brad is smokin hot. He does a fantastic job as an old man, especially in the scenes where he is just learning to walk. I just couldn't get enough.

a day of change

Happy Inauguration Day! This is history in the making folks! Let's enjoy this day of change as a day where we can celebrate our freedom and right to elect our president. I am thankful I live in a country where power can change hands without war or conflict. How lucky are we? Dang lucky.

If you are one of the lucky ducks who lives in NYC (or is visiting soon), make it a priority to stop by the Danziger Projects to see the Can & Did exhibit (Jan 20-Feb 28) of the Pop Art associated with the Obama campaign and election. Also, apparently they have signed Shepard Fairey posters and other Obama-art for sale. Snap one up while you can, and while you are there, will you grab one for me too?

luxe leather

I am love loving this leather jacket from Banana Republic. There is something so fresh about the 3/4 length sleeve for Spring. I also love that particular shade of gray. Very chic!

Ruched leather jacket at BR, $500. (My apologies for the tiny picture.)

desirable, sustainable design

Aren't these Alexander Girard PLYPrints grand? I like a fun, funky bit of art with a touch of environmental awareness. Originally popularized in the 1970s, Columbia Forest Products reissued six 14" x 14" iconic Alexander Girard whimsical textile prints, but this time they printed them on plywood planks, a reusable, renewable material. How cool is that?

All six designs available at Design Public for $89. More info on Girard available here and here.

a vintage lover after my own heart

File this under "I would totally wear that." A downright adorable vintage wedding dress. Perfection my dear.

P.S. I love her rockin' bangs too.

if you loved me, part:forever hoping

I still have the itch to adopt another little pup and give Maddie a friend. The bf has put the cabash on a Spaniel, so time for plan B. I was thinking a French Bulldog. How amazingly adorable is this one? Apparently they are affectionate, comical, curious and alert. Just what we need in our home!

call me crazy...

...but I loved these red carpet looks! Yahoo! has them on the worst dressed list, but I have to disagree. I think they look fab! What do you think?

This one I cannot argue with. That satin is definitely not doing her any favors.

rainy day shoes

While on our roadtrip in NC, we did a little shopping/sight seeing in a small mountain town off of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock. One of the little stores, Clover, had the most gorgeous, well-edited selection of pretties. The store carries dresses, blouses, jeans and some accessories including the most amahzing plaid Hunter wellies. I have searched the internets high and low with no success, but the ones below from Amazon are close (minus the checked pattern of the fabric).

I couldn't (and still can't) justify the $140 price tag since my only interaction with the rain is to stand in it ever so briefly every once in awhile when taking the dog out, but I love them anyway.

On a related note, these Frye Vienna flat boots are pretty stellar too.

political cartoons

I love this witty political cartoon-esque booklet from etsy seller Creepy Box of Treasure. The artiste, Maria Sputnik does other little comics too, and for $2.50 a pop, I'd say get one of each.

P.S. Can it really be 100 posts already? Thanks to all my lovely readers for visiting and allowing me to entertain you with my musings. Cheers to another 100 or 200 or more!
