you have stolen my heart

Hello loves! I am off to NY to visit by bff and her baby. I can't wait to see the little guy! And I am seriously in love with NY-the state and the City. It's all good. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I will be back to actually posting next week.

Ciao!
Everybody hearts NY, including Asa Ransom.

still and quiet

I apologize for the unexpected blogging hiatus. I have literally just been swamped, both at work and at play :). I have attended lots of concerts (3 in a week!), met a favorite musician, worked like a mad woman, sat in lots of meetings, caught up with girlfriends and still managed to keep my house realtively clean. I am hosting a girl's night potluck dinner tonight and attending a costume party tomorrow. I promise to have pictures and a few posts up this weekend.

Hope your Friday is fabulous!

P.S. Have I mentioned how much I love fall? Oh, not in the last 24 hours, you say? Then let me say it again. The weather has officially shifted and I am getting to wear pretty sweaters (and new deep purple cape today!) and let me just say that I am loving it!

P.P.S. I really am going to post all the vintage clothes and lovelies to the etsy store this weekend. I know I promised them so long ago. So sorry!

one day at a time

"Life is not a dress rehearsal. Every day, you should have at least one exquisite moment."
--Sally Karioth

In summary, carpe diem people. Let's stop wasting time and whining about the little things. And start living in a way that impacts people and the bigger picture. I am coming to realize that there is no need to bother with stressing about the things I can't control. I am making a declaration that from this day forward I will only worry about loving people and thanking God for this wonderful, beautiful life.

(apparently) bad girls love obama

You know how there is that old saying "No publicity is bad publicity?" Well I am here to tell you that is so.not.true. If I were Obama, I would just say no. This is ridiculous on so many levels that I do not even know where to start.

First, I feel sorry for the puppy. In the hat. Poor, poor puppy in a sparkly early-90's granny holiday cap. Then the lack of pants! Otherwise known as a DIY'd nightshirt-dress hybrid professing her love of a certain politico. I know, I know, you thought I would go for the headband thing next. I can't even look at it. And, I know we all let our roots grow in from time to time, but her hair is such an ashy shade that they look gray! And according to Wiki, she is 24. I'm confused.

that sartorialist

The Sartorialist has done it again. Another beautiful woman on a beautiful bike in a beautiful city (this time, Milan). I still haven't scratched my itch for a vintage bike. And now that the weather is getting cooler, I might just wait until the Spring. Or maybe this is perfect weather to take up riding a bike?

i am going to be an auntie

My best best friend forever and ever is finally having her baby! I am going to be a godmother and an honorary auntie (self appointed of course)! I got a text and a follow up phone call telling me she was in labor at 5:41pm Dallas time. So the next time we chat, the little man will be here. I am so so excited for her!

Love and prayers to my bff Cara and her hubby Dan and baby Aidan.

P.S. She is actually having him on her due date, October 10th. Does that ever happen? Feels like good juju. Amen.

i wish you love

Along with all my winter wear online window shopping, I have been keeping a few chilly weather songs in heavy rotation on my iTunes. (No not Christmas music yet. You know me. I don't debut the Christmas tunes until November 1st silly!) These songs are just mellow and pretty and make me want to curl up with a warm mug of coffee and a fuzzy blanket.

Among them is one in particular that makes me continually hit repeat.

"I wish you shelter from the storm. A cozy fire to keep you warm, But most of all, when snowflakes fall, I wish you love."
Rachel Yamagata "I Wish You Love"

Also, apparently this was originally a French song. J'adore.

fallen in love with fall and winter

Remember when you were little and you just COULD NOT wait until summer break? Well for some reason, as I have gotten older, that is how I am feeling about fall and winter. The anticipation of fall has been just absolutely killing me the past couple of weeks. There is just something so so pretty about sunny, breezy fall days in Dallas. And the fashion. Oh the fashion! Even the bf has commented that he likes me in "winter clothes." There are just so many possiblities when you can go layer crazy. I loves loves loves it!

So, imagine how happy I got when Anthro delivered this beauty to my inbox. Love at first sight, I tell you! And their email reads: Brrr-race yourself. Baby its cold outside. Sigh.

Naturally I browsed and found too many lovely treasures to post. Here are some favorites:

Camera Club Capelet $438. I already purchased a cape for fall (ok, 2, but who is counting?) but this one sure is gorgeous.

Knotty Pine Cardigan $148. A work of art.

Cwmorthin Stone Necklace $278. Strange name, serious statement.

Creek and Cavern Sweater Coat $398. Yummy plush cable knit. To die.

Grand Mesa Boots $488. And no fall/winter outfit is complete without a pair of major boots. These are such a great neutral color that could be worn anywhere.

Labyrinth Rose Gloves $42. Classic little pink tea roses on cozy angora/wool gloves. Tres chic!

Ed Note: I fully realize that all of the above items are pricey. But it is a lust list and Anthro is pricey. Good news is, they have awesome sales pretty much year round. I love me that sale room!

happy birthday laura loo!

Happy happy to my wonderful friend Laura. This girl got me through what would have been a lonely summer internship in Cali. She was my partner in crime and she is totally awesome. For real. And, AND she is getting married in six months and I totally had a hand in the set up. So cool. I can't wait to participate in the festivities.

Happy birthday girl! I will definitely have a glass of wine this evening in your honor. Loves you!

fantasy monday

For this week's installment of Fantasy Monday, I am changing it up a little bit. This week I am going to wish for something that money can't buy (at least I don't think).

I would love love to meet Keri Russell. I mean, come on, how cute is she? Plus she is a mom with a cause (what? You haven't seen/heard her commercials about infant whopping cough?), she always looks so very put together at awards shows, she has the most amazing hair and wardrobe, and she and her son are just too too adorable. Plus plus she lives in Brooklyn. So she really has that going for her too. I have lurved all of her most recent movies-Waitress and August Rush are definite favorites. I think I am going to rent all the old Felicity DVD's to refresh my original love for her. I loved that show. Didn't you?

I think we could totally be bff's.

sad, sad thursday

Since somebody somewhere in the important world of politics decided to host the VP debate tonight, we will all be missing out on some quality tv. Most notably, The Office. Sad, sad, sad. So, to cheer you up, I will post a little preview of Employee Ethics Day at Dunder Mifflin.

I apologize about the short ad at the beginning. The clip is so worth it though.

denim done wrong

I hate it when a perfectly good thing gets ruined. Like when a restaurant adds onions to your meal when you ask for them to 86 them. Or when a really particularly good episode of Gossip Girl gets half eaten by the DVR. Or when a perfect 80 degree day passes by outside while I am at work. Or when a store originally known for its denim and basics makes jeans like these:

Really? Stirrup jeans? Really? Really!? I truly never thought they would bring this heinous style back. I mean I rocked stirrup pants from 1986-1992 like a true child of the 80's, but in 2008? I am just not convinced. ESPECIALLY with pumps. For real? Maybe tucked into boots they could be slightly more acceptable. But really, it's the principal of the thing.

I am really not even sure if I have a comment for this. Those are not capris and not full length jeans. This style cuts you off right at the ankle, which is not, I repeat, not flattering on anyone. I mean it isn't even flattering on this model's size 00 frame. These pants are just eww. And with sneakers? Again, this is bad styling.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the Gap. I have worked for Gap, Inc. companies at various times in my life and have always loved the job. But the pants? The pants have to go.

If you must, Stirrup Jeans and Straight Ankle Jeans from Gap.com.

I am in love with this. For the next recarnation of my room I am definitely putting this one in play.

fantasy wednesday

OK, OK, I know I have been extremely remiss in actually posting Fantasy Monday posts on Monday. But this week has been busy (what week isn't?) what with the deadlines and the meetings and the emergency evacuation of my building yesterday afternoon, so I am posting on Wednesday instead.

So without further ado, I present what I have been dreaming about for some time now.

A little European-style old school bicycle. My boyfriend would die (or at least be mildly shocked) if I actually rode one of these. But maybe I should learn? Maybe he can teach me. Does anybody know where I can find a vintage one for a decent price? The basket is a must-have. I already have the hat.
