p.s.

So I totally just realized something really, really awesome. Helena Christensen and I are hair twins!

OK, so she is uber hot and I look nothing like her, but I have this.exact.same.haircut. The bangs are right, the length is right, and it is almost the exact same color. Boy howdy, this made my day.

tis the season

Black Friday marks the official start of the Christmas season (despite how hard stores were trying to convince us it started 4 or 5 weeks ago) and I couldn't be more excited. This weekend I plan to bundle up in a cute coat and do a little shopping for the family, eat lots of leftovers (Thanksgiving is just about the only time of year I will actually eat reheated food), watch Christmasy movies like The Holiday and The Family Stone, and work on some crafty gifts I am planning. Hope yours is just a lovely.

etsy love

I have been on the lookout for the perfect pair of vintage salt and pepper shakers for some time now. And while I secretly hope to find them at an estate sale for like $1, I can't help but browse etsy for them approximately every three days or so. At any rate, I have found lots of contenders, but somehow I just can't bring myself to purchase any. For the moment I have decided I can blame it on my shopping hiatus. So can somebody please buy this so I don't have to? That would be great.

resolution

Last night C & I had dinner with a group of friends including a couple that we don't get to see often enough. I will call them the W's. So last night, the W's challenged me and C (as they tend to do) by asking lots of probing and thought provoking questions, and one of the things Mrs. W said really resonated with me. She offered this advice:

"A leader's biggest failure is never in leading others, but in leading himself. You need to know who you are before you can know what you are meant to do."

She and Mr. W also encouraged us to really listen for our calling. So, as an early New Year's resolution, I am going to stop thinking and start listening. Wish me luck!

hygee

Hygee is a Danish term that means a sense of warmth and coziness and belonging in a certain place. It finally got cold here last night, so I plan on cuddling and keeping warm this weekend. I hope that your weekend brings you a feeling of hygee and happiness.

P.S. Get your guns up on Saturday for my Tech boys!

all i want for christmas is...

Yesterday I sent the bf an email detailing all I want for Christmas. See if any of these hit your wish list.

1. Smittens. So we can always hold hands. Even in the cold.

2. An Icelandic beard hat. So that I can look like my boyfriend (who has a beard).
3. Flippin photobooth pictures. So I can feel all cute romantic.
4. His love to keep me warm.

P.S. Obviously this was a joke. Except for the love one. That one I definitely need. What can I say? The bf? He gets me.

for the love of blog

I am absolutely loving these two blog that I just discovered. The eye candy is just.so.sweet.

1. Lobster& Swan. She is so creative (see the bunting over her bed above) and she takes the most gorgeous pictures. I made it all the way through her archive. It is lovely.

2. Then there is .V over at The Paper Planes. So many pretty saturated colors and just a wealth of inspiration. It's hours upon hours of pretty. Muy fantastico!

Happy archive diving!

happy 24th to my bestest friend forever

Oh happy, happy day to my beautiful bestie! I love this girl more than words can express. She has stuck by me even when I have been a less than stellar best friend. We have shared lots of evenings of chatter, dinners at La Madeleine, shopping trips, a few boyfriends(!) and lots of priceless memories over the past 10 years! Now that she is married and has a precious little boy, I sort of feel like we are growing up. And being adult friends is really cool. I can't wait to be friends forever. Because when we are 80, we will still be going strong. And that's awesome.

Here's to a hundred more happy years of friendship. Love you Cara.

i have faith

"I have faith. Faith in our wonderous capacity for hope and good, love and trust, healing and forgiveness. Faith in the blessing of our infinite ability to wonder, question, pray, feel, think and learn. I have faith. Faith in the infinite possibilites off the human spirit."
-James Brown, sportscaster
Well said. I believe in faith and hope and love with all of my heart. I have faith that my life has a greter purpose and that I am taken care of. Faith in thinking that good thoughts and kind words can heal. Faith in the belief that no matter where life takes me, I can always come home and find truth and love and family. And that makes life good.

wanted: bridesmaid shoes

So I am on the hunt for a pair of tangerine bridesmaid shoes. They need to be relatively comfortable and relatively affordable. The dresses are tea length and yellow, and the wedding is in the spring in Cali, so they can be any style, which is helpful given the lack of attractive options. Maybe closer to spring there will be more orange shoes on the market?

In the meantime, if any of you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. In my fantasy life I would just snatch up one of the following pairs (assuming they came in orange, which none of them actually do), but alas I live in the real world and cannot justify $700-$800 for orange shoes. Surely someone out there in the blogging world can help a sista out. I would greatly appreciate it.

influence, olsen style

Please let me preface this post with an apology about the quality of the cell phone pictures below. I have approximately 250 pictures on my camera and an almost maxed-out hard drive on my Mac, so any pictures taken with the digital are not currently being dl to the computer. So, we are left with cell phone pics. The pictures in the actual book are much more vivid. (Ed. Note: Despite what the shady cell pics might imply, I did purchase this book.) And that concludes the preface. Moving on...

I love this book. The interviews are interesting. The pictures are pretty and fashiony. The quotes are very quotable and easy to live by. And I kind of want to be an Olsen twin. I saw an interview they did with Oprah about how "normal" they are and how they think they are just like everyone else. Ummmm, no. Don't pretend that being friends with Karl Lagerfeld is normal. Because it is not. But I still love them. They are so tiny and hip and pouty and cool. If we met, we would be instant bff's. I am sure of it.

Anyway, without further ado, I recommend Influence. Because if Oprah loves it, I love it. (Just kidding babe!)

addictive fun

I know that many a savvy blogger has posted on Polyvore, but I just had to go ahead and say it. I am addicted. It.is.so.much.fun. I mean, COME ON! I can create any oufit I want, regardless of price and color and trend. And I don't even have to worry if they have my size. It is the best kind of shopping hiatus non-shopping ever. Go ahead, give it a try. I dare you.

And with that said, I present to you a few lovely outfits that would be perfect for a fall weekend getaway. I am getting away with the bf and some friends on a road trip in late December. We are headed East, to the lakes and mountains of North Carolina. I would love to pack up all of this in a small duffle and call it a day. Wouldn't that be nice.

for the love of starbucks

I love Starbucks. In college the bf and I would study at the one across the street from campus. The majority of the time our friends would show up and studying would become social hour. To this day, C and I still like to hang out at Sbux, just relaxing and chatting.

So, needless to say, I think that this Starbucks proposal that Joanna blogged about is too, too cute for words.

I think that proposals should be intimate and meaningful. Something that represents a shared love or interest between the couple. So if drinking coffee is your "couple thing," why not write it in the bottom of a cup of joe? Lovely.

politico

I know I haven't chimed in with any opinions regarding our new President Elect, but I thought that this picture was worth a post. This poster serves to remind me that the election of Obama is extremely historically significant.

little lady

I have a small Friday friend. This little lady (small red speck towards the bottom left corner) came to say "hi" to me this afternoon. All the way up on the 42nd floor. It's the little things in life, you know?
Have a lovely weekend. I hope you make a new friend!

is it just me?

Or did anyone else notice this guy on Monday's episode of The Hills? (I wish I had thought about taking a screenshot.)

It's that hottie/bad boy Dominic from Bravo's Make Me A Supermodel. Unfortunately for him, his model friend Alex got totally dissed by Whitney. So not cool. Why am I still watching this show? You know what I would rather watch? Make Me A Supermodel 2. When will that start? I mean Bravo had multiples seasons of that Top Haircut show and that was awful (re:boring) so surely that will bring back the mdoel wannabes soon.

Update: Bravo has the casting call info posted right now on the website and myspace. Does that mean the show won't air for another 3-6 months? Boo.

charley harper illustrations

Have you seen this iconic book, Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life? Or are you a lucky duck who actually owns a copy? If not, this bad boy (full of beautiful animal and botanical prints) will run you $125-$200 buckaroos on Amazon. What's that? You can't afford $200 so close to the holiday season, you say? Well neither can I sister. Good thing Old Navy has us covered.
That's right, a Charley Harper illustrated children's book. And $9.50 is much more palatable. I may or may not already have 2 copies in my shopping cart.
A beautiful coloring book for $6.50. Yup, I picked up one of these too.

And two of the three illustrated unisex baby tshirts. Sizes 0-5T for $12.50 each.
There is also a puzzle and memory game. It is all too beautiful. I would snap it up before it is all gone. I am purchasing for the babies in my life (and maybe one copy for me). It is just too much to resist! All available online at ON.

if you loved me, you'd buy me one of these #2

I know this couple is all the buzz around the blogging world, but I just can't resist. Her epic ruffles have set my heart all aflutter. Le sigh.

things to love today

Top 6 things I am loving today (some of which I have always loved and some of which are new):

6. Zooey Deschanel. I know I just posted on her last week, but she is too darling. The beginning of November marks the time of year when it is perfectly acceptable to watch Elf 50 times in the span of two months. I like to rewind the part where she is singing Baby It's Cold Outside in the shower. One, because her voice rocks, and two, because I still think it is hilarious to see Will Ferrell run into the stall doors. I think I will start tonight. Adore this picture above, via Coco + Kelley. (P.S. My new blog friend Mooney loves her too.)

5. Gray outerwear. I love, love the shades of gray that many coats are taking this year. This swingy, sweater cape coat from Topshop is featured on the last page of the December issue of Lucky mag. It would be featured in my closet too if I had $510 (!) to spend on a new coat this winter.

4. Birdcage veils. Just too, too pretty. 100% vintage glam and 101% chic. Kate Bosworth can certainly pull it off as evidenced in the October issue of Elle Italy. And seriously, how pretty is the slate gray and pinky fleshtone color combo?

3. Beautiful shoes as home decor via This is Glamorous. Glamorous indeed! I wonder if my roomie would be willing to let me do this?

2. Ballerinas and all the accoutrements. The knit leggings, the tulle skirt, the darling wrap cardi. As a little girl I always wanted to be a graceful ballerina. Too bad I am about as clumsy as an ox. But, a girl can dream! Ballet beauty via This is Glamorous.

1. Gossip Girl. This is an addiction. I.love.Blair. (And her epic ruffles above, via Oh Happy Day). New ep tonight! Per the previews, poor poopie pants, Little J, has a heart wrenching cryfest. It is about time she was punished for her bratty behavior. I can't stand her. I can't wait! (p.s. I totally did not mean to have so many alliterations in this paragraph. It just worked out that way.)

Bonus. I can't leave out my boys. Texas Tech 10-0!! (Ranked #2 by BCS and AP) Wreck 'Em Tech! LOVE love love it!

quotable

"they're not perfect, but they are fantastic,
and sometimes fantastic is better than perfect.
wouldn't you agree?"

Here's to hoping that C & I can always be fantastic, even though we aren't perfect. Of all the couples I know, the happiest ones know how to roll with the punches and love each other just as they are. It is certainly admirable.
